PUBGEM-Africa: Public Understanding of Big data in Genomics Medicine in Africa (Post Doc)
Dr. Karen Kengne Kamga is a physician-scientist specialising in public health genomics and health challenges in African contexts. His research explores the lived experiences of individuals with genetic conditions, with particular emphasis on stigma, health equity, and the ethical integration of genomics into healthcare systems. He holds an MD from the University of Yaound I in Cameroon, a PhD in Genetic Counselling from the University of Cape Town, and an MBA in Health Management-demonstrating a strong interdisciplinary foundation that bridges clinical practice, research, and health leadership. Dr. Kamga's work integrates qualitative methods with translational genomics, contributing significantly to community-based studies on sickle cell disease, rare genetic disorders such as Fragile X syndrome, and culturally grounded approaches to community engagement. He is the co-founder of GeNE (Genetics and Ethics for the Cameroon Population), a community-based initiative promoting ethical, inclusive, and culturally responsive genomic research in Cameroon. Through his scholarship and advocacy, Dr. Kamga promotes shared decision-making in healthcare and champions the active involvement of African communities in shaping the continent's genomic future.
