Abdourahmane SOW is the IPD's Director of Public health with over 15 years' experience at national and international level (10 years) in public health program management, preparedness and response to emerging and re-emerging disease epidemics, health system strengthening and clinical research. His competences include also strong diplomatic and communication skills. His leadership approach combines strategic vision with operational discipline and a strong focus on Africa's role in scientific innovation and resilience. Dr SOW has led complex international health initiatives and steered multidisciplinary teams through challenges ranging from health crises to large-scale research and innovation programs. He has the privilege of expanding institutional capacity, securing key partnerships across governments, global health actors and technical and financial partners to mobilize resources and secure funding for IPD's public health strategic plan. He set up the West African regional public health laboratory network as well as the regional observatory for AMR surveillance and control. He also extended the IPD's Sentinel Syndromic Surveillance System (4S) model in 12 West Africa countries. Dr SOW also led the expansion and modernization of IPD's clinical research platforms for therapeutic and vaccine trials ensuring compliance with international standards, regulatory framework.
