    INSITE: INnovative data Science to Impact the TB Epidemic (Contact-PI)

    Associate Professor Emma Kalk is Director of the Centre for Integrated Data and Epidemiological Research. She is a clinical epidemiologist with a focus on operational research in maternal and child health. Her current interests include pharmacovigilance and surveillance in pregnant and breast-feeding women with an emphasis on antiretroviral and anti-tuberculosis therapy. She manages the Pregnancy Exposure Registry in Cape Town (a sentinel-site of the South African Pregnancy Exposure Registry) which is supported by a larger population-level database. She works closely with data scientists at the Provincial Health Data Centre providing feedback and clinical insight to optimize systems. Much of her work is rooted in the health services, using scientific questions as a vehicle to drive enhanced data infrastructure and service strengthening. Dr Kalk is a founding member and current Director of the sub-Saharan African Congenital Anomalies Network (sSCAN).
