Data Science for Child Health Now in Ghana (DS-CHANGE) (MS trainee)

I hold a First-Class B.Sc. in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where I was awarded the Best Graduating Student in the Department of Biochemistry for the graduating class of 2021. I am currently pursuing an MPhil in Biomedical Data Science and Computational Biology at NIMS-KNUST under the DS-CHANGE training grant (Data Science for Child Health in Ghana). My research investigates the role of structural variations, particularly copy number variants (CNVs), in the heritability of syndromic orofacial clefts using whole exome sequencing data from Ghanaian case-parent trios. My technical expertise spans NGS data analysis, bioinformatic pipeline development, DNA extraction, and PCR. I am especially interested in integrating environmental data with genomic findings to uncover comprehensive insights into pediatric conditions in Africa. As a young scientist, I am passionate about leveraging machine learning and advanced data science techniques to make sense of complex biological datasets. My long-term goal is to incorporate full multi-omics approaches including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics into my research and clinical applications.
