Kampala International University Tanzania (Research Associate Professor)
I am a Research Scientist at the National Institute for Medical Research in Tanzania. I also work with the Muhimbili Sickle Cell Programme at the Muhimbili University of Health Sciences, as well as an Adjunct Research Associate Professor at Kampala International University Tanzania, where I am the Principal Investigator of a project focused on Modeling Health Impact and Cost-Effectiveness of Malaria Chemoprevention and Vaccines in Africa funded by the Wellcome Trust. My research interests encompass malaria, population studies, sickle cell disease, onchocerciasis, and epilepsy. I have led and collaborated on a wide range of multidisciplinary projects. Among these is the Epilepsy Pathway Innovation Africa, an initiative which explores the link between onchocerciasis and epilepsy in Mahenge, Tanzania. I currently serve as a Cohort Research Expert with the Sickle Pan African Research Consortium, supporting cohort studies implementation across SickleInAfrica consortium sites. I hold a PhD in Health Sciences, with my dissertation investigating spatial variation in malaria risk in northeastern Tanzania. Over the past two decades, I have played a key role in the design and analysis of landmark studies, including the RTS,S malaria vaccine trial and research into malaria chemoprophylaxis and intermittent preventive treatment of malaria in children.
