MADIVA: Multimorbidity in Africa: Digital innovation, visualisation and application (Co-PI)
Associate Professor F. Xavier Gómez-Olivé, PhD. MD. (Medical Epidemiologist, Specialist in Public Health and Preventive Medicine) is the Associate Director and Head of Research at the Agincourt Research Unit, School of Public Health, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. Prof. Gómez-Olivé has 25 years of experience in population research in rural Africa. His research focuses on the health and well-being of older population comprising the strengthening of health systems, epidemiology of HIV, non-communicable diseases, sleep disorders, and the care of older people with multimorbidity in rural Africa. Currently, I am an MPI of the NIH funded study Intergenerational Intervention: Employing Youth to Promote Aging Healthy with HIV in Rural South Africa; the Project-1 PI - Data Integration and Visualization - NIH funded MADIVA (Multimorbidity in Africa: Digital innovation, visualisation and application) project aiming to establish a Data Science Research hub at the University of the Witwatersrand to address the complex interplay, individual and public health challenges, and rising prevalence of multimorbidity in Africans; and the Field and Data PI of the Health and Aging in Africa: Longitudinal Studies of an INDEPTH Community" study (HAALSI). Gómez-Olivé has supervised Master, PhD and Post-doctoral students to completion.
