SYNAPSE: SYNthetic Healthcare DAta Platform for Data SciEnce Training (Masters Student)

I am a Master's student in Epidemiology at the University of Rwanda, School of Public Health, with a background in Statistics Applied to the Economy. My research bridges epidemiology, data science, and digital health, with a focus on improving maternal health outcomes. I am currently conducting my thesis on the external validation of predictive models for Caesarean section delivery using de-identified clinical data from public and private hospitals in Kigali. This builds on earlier work where I developed machine learning models-including LightGBM and XGBoost-using MDClone synthetic healthcare data to predict Caesarean section deliveries. The synthetic data laid the foundation for my ongoing validation study. In addition to my research, I serve as Assistant Editor at the Rwanda Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences, where I support manuscript screening and editorial coordination. I am also a Data Science Trainee under the NIH-funded DS-I Africa initiative, where I've advanced my skills in Python, machine learning, and public health informatics. I am passionate about leveraging data-driven approaches to strengthen decision-making in clinical and public health settings across Africa.
