Mr Ddumba Gerald - Participant
MUDSReH: MUST Data Science Research Hub (Research Assistant)
Ddumba Gerald is a seasoned research assistant with over 4 years of experience working with Mbarara University of Science and Technology Data Science Research Hub (MUDSReH) under MoDRIA (Multimodal Database of Retinal Images for Africa) project, where he has led and supervised a team of 12 fundus camera technicians to collect data from over 15,000 consented participants and collected over 60, 000 retinal images across multiple health facilities in Uganda and Kenya. Prior to this role, he worked as a fundus camera technician with a diabetic retinopathy project under the Lions club, successfully screening over 500 diabetic patients in the regional referral hospitals and health centers in Western and Southern parts of Uganda. Gerald holds a Bachelor's degree in science and education (Chemistry Mathematics) from Mbarara University of Science and Technology. Throughout his career as a research assistant, he has had the privilege of working under the guidance and leadership of a highly esteemed ophthalmologist Dr. Simon Arunga. With a passion for improving eye health in Africa, Gerald continues to work hard in his field. Outside work, he enjoys listening to gospel music and he is dedicated to preaching the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
