DS-CHANGE: Data Science for Child Health Now in Ghana (Masters Student)
My name is Sally Gli, and I am a Master's student in Biomedical Data Science. My work focuses on child health in Ghana, especially in areas like cleft lip and palate, malaria, and injuries in children. I earned a First Class degree in Mathematics from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where I developed strong skills in problem-solving and working with data. For my final-year project, I worked on a study called "Parameter Estimation of a COVID-19 Model Using Epidemiology-Informed Neural Networks." This project used both math and machine learning to better understand how COVID-19 spreads. Now, I use data to study and find better ways to prevent and treat health problems in children. I work with information from hospitals, health surveys, and other data sources to help make health care better for kids, especially those in underserved areas. Outside of school, I enjoy volunteering in programs that help girls become more confident in math and science. In the future, I hope to do a PhD and help create better health solutions for children across Africa.
