African Population and Health Research Center (Data Scientist)
Daniel Maina is a Data Scientist at the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), where he supports a broad range of projects focused on health systems research, longitudinal data integration, and advanced analytics. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Egerton University and a Master's degree in Distributed Computing Technologies from the University of Nairobi. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Health at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. His doctoral research focuses on Privacy-Preserving Record Linkage (PPRL) and its application in studying multimorbidity patterns using linked electronic health records and demographic surveillance data. His work aims to evaluate and optimize secure, scalable record linkage techniques suitable for low-resource settings, with an emphasis on preserving patient confidentiality while enabling population-level health analysis. At APHRC, he has contributed to projects involving data harmonization, dashboard development, machine learning for health outcomes, and stakeholder engagement in digital health innovations. He has supervised and trained teams, developed manuscript concepts, designed data capture systems, and participated in international data linkage workshops, including at the International Population Data Linkage Network Conference 2024 (IPDLN 2024) in Chicago-and co-developed manuscripts on data integration strategies.
