CAMRA: Combatting AntiMicrobial Resistance in Africa Using Data Science (Co-Investigator)
Bernard Ebruke is a Paediatrician and epidemiologist, with several years' experience in the design, implementation and monitoring of clinical research studies in Africa. His research has focused on evaluating the epidemiology of infectious diseases in young children, particularly the role of bacterial pathogens amongst vulnerable populations in developing country settings. He previously served as co-investigator and Gambia country lead for the Gates-funded, multi-country, Pneumonia Etiology Research of Child Health (PERCH) study. The PERCH study, a landmark study and till date, the largest global childhood pneumonia etiology study, conducted across seven countries, five of which were in Africa, not only provided new insights into the roles of commonly identified bacterial pathogens following the roll-out of new bacterial vaccines (PCV, HiB), also revealed new knowledge about important viruses and their possible roles in childhood pneumonia etiology. In his current role as Country Director for Research at the International Foundation Against Infectious Disease in Nigeria he has coordinated the set-up and implementation of several surveillance studies in Nigeria. He currently serves as co-investigator on the NIH-funded CAMRA project on the DS-I Africa program.
