DSpace: Utilizing Data Science to Predict and Improve Health Outcomes in Pediatric HIV (Investigator)

Dr. Eric Katagirya is a medical doctor and biomedical research scientist at Makerere University in Uganda. His research focuses on the use of RNA sequencing and immunogenomics to improve the diagnosis of tuberculosis in HIV-infected children across East and Southern Africa. He applies statistical genomics and machine learning methods to identify transcriptomic and immunological biomarkers of TB-HIV co-infection, drawing on pediatric cohorts from Uganda, Botswana, and Eswatini. He also serves as a co-investigator on the Data Science for Pediatric Syndemics in Africa (DSPACE) project-an interdisciplinary initiative that integrates multi-omics and longitudinal electronic health record (EHR) data to develop predictive tools for metabolic syndrome (MetS) and tuberculosis in HIV-infected children across sub-Saharan Africa.
