    Joyce Nakatumba-Nabende (PhD) is a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science. She heads the Makerere Artificial Intelligence Lab, a research lab in the Department of Computer Science. She is also a founding member of the Data Science Africa - Uganda chapter, which aims to grow a critical mass of Data Science professionals in Uganda to meet the increasing demand in the private and public sectors. Her research interests are Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Responsible AI.
