    Associate Professor F. Xavier Gomez-Olive (Specialist Public Health and Epidemiology, M.D., PhD) is the Associate Director of the MRC/Wits Rural Public Health and Health Transition Research Unit, School of Public Health, University of Witwatersrand. Prof. Gomez-Olive is mainly responsible for the scientific and administrative coordination and implementation of all research projects in the Unit. In the 25 years of fieldwork experience in rural Africa, Gómez-Olivé has been the PI, co-PI, and Co-Investigator of numerous studies. Prof. Gomez-Olive's areas of interest comprise health systems research, the prevention and treatment of HIV in adolescents, and the health and wellbeing of adults and older population. At present, in health systems research Prof. Gomez-Olive is the PI of Project 1 for the MADIVA project. In older people research, he primarily focuses on Sleep Disorders, Multimorbidity, Non-communicable Diseases, Disability and Frailty, HIV, COVID-19, and Migration and Health. Gomez-Olive has authored more than 200 publications and supervised Master, PhD, and Post-doctoral students to completion.
