    David Patrick Kateete, BVM, MSc, Ph.D., is Senior Lecturer and Head, Dept. of Immunology & Molecular Biology, Makerere University College of Health Sciences. His research interests are in infection biology with focus on tuberculosis and 'neglected' infections in Uganda (e.g., community and hospital acquired bacterial infections). In this research he employs modern molecular approaches including genomics, as well as data science analytics. He is particularly interested in Education Research that aims to improve science education in tertiary institutions in Africa. To this end, he was co-PI for the H3Africa/NIH-supported project "Nurturing genomics and bioinformatics research capacity in Africa (BRECA)", an education grant that has established genomics/bioinformatics research capacity Makerere University, through Master's & PhD degree training programs. Dr. Kateete is also co-PI of the MakDARTA program that aims to establish data science research and training capacity at Makerere University.
