Leveraging Data Science Applications to Improve Children's Environmental Health in Sub-Saharan Africa (DICE Project) (PhD Student)
My name is Paul Kwame Adjorlolo, a Ghanaian biostatistician and public health researcher with interests in environmental health, spatial epidemiology, and child health outcomes in Sub Saharan Africa. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Public Health (Biostatistics) at the University of Ghana, where my research examines the impact of ambient PM2.5 exposure on under five mortality, with a focus on spatial variability and the role of green space. My work aims to produce rigorous, policy relevant evidence to strengthen public health practice across Africa. I have published in leading journals such as Environmental Research, Environment International, International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, and Psychiatry Research. My research spans environmental exposures, spatial modeling, undernutrition, unintended pregnancies, mental health, and actuarial science. I contribute to the NIH supported DICE Project, where I support geospatial data mining, advanced spatial analysis, and data management. My work on the project contributed to two publications in Environment International, both presented at the 5th DS I Africa Consortium Meeting. My academic experience includes teaching actuarial mathematics, statistics, and R programming as an Adjunct Lecturer at Knutsford University and as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Ghana. I was born in Sokpoe (Volta Region) and grew up in Grubi (Oti Region)-a farming and fishing community that shaped my resilience and commitment to meaningful scientific impact. I currently live in Accra. My long term goal is to build an academic career that integrates impactful research with scientific leadership. In my personal time, I enjoy reading and exploring new ideas
