Leveraging Data Science Applications to Improve Children's Environmental Health in Sub-Saharan Africa (DICE Project) (Masters Student)
Patrick Attey-Yeboah is an emerging researcher in environmental epidemiology, with a strong focus on addressing critical data gaps in air pollution across Sub-Saharan Africa. His work centers on the development and application of advanced statistical and spatial modeling approaches to quantify the health impacts of environmental exposures. He has extensive experience working with large-scale datasets, including the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS), integrating environmental, socioeconomic, and health data to investigate outcomes such as childhood undernutrition and respiratory health. His methodological expertise spans Bayesian hierarchical modeling (using INLA), spatial epidemiology, and machine learning applications for environmental data. He currently serves as Data Manager for the Ghana Urban Air Quality Project and the Breathe Accra Project, where he leverages data from dense networks of low-cost air quality sensors to generate high-resolution, policy-relevant evidence. Patrick is particularly committed to translating complex data into actionable insights for public health policy. His work emphasizes the generation of decision-relevant evidence to inform interventions in low-resource settings. He is also actively involved in designing and supporting public health interventions, including school-based strategies aimed at mitigating the adverse health effects of air pollution among vulnerable populations.
