Growing Data-science Research in Africa to Stimulate Progress (GRASP)

Oluwaseun Williams is a biostatistician and public health researcher with a strong focus on applying advanced statistical and data science methods to address complex health challenges in low- and middle-income countries. He is currently pursuing doctoral research in Biostatistics, with interests spanning causal inference, machine learning, and spatial analysis in health outcomes. His work is driven by a commitment to generating evidence that informs policy and improves population health, particularly in maternal, child, and non-communicable disease research. Oluwaseun has extensive experience in the design and analysis of epidemiological studies, including quasi-experimental designs, survival analysis, and multilevel modeling. He has contributed to research on stroke, cognitive impairment, and sexual and reproductive health, and is actively involved in developing predictive models and innovative tools for data-driven decision-making. His current work includes leveraging machine learning approaches to understand post-stroke outcomes and support clinical risk prediction. Beyond research, Oluwaseun is passionate about capacity building and has trained students and professionals in statistical software such as SPSS, Stata, and R. He is also engaged in collaborative projects, including the development of community-based mHealth systems for disease surveillance and prevention. Through his work, he aims to bridge the gap between complex data analytics and practical public health interventions, contributing to stronger health systems and improved outcomes across Africa.
