Digital innovation, visualization and application) (Postgraduate Student)
Nhlamulo Khoza is a PhD candidate at the Sydney Brenner Institute for Molecular Bioscience (SBIMB), University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He is affiliated with the Multimorbidity in Africa: Digital Innovation, Visualisation and Application (MADIVA) Research Hub, part of the DS-I Africa initiative. His doctoral research focuses on the genetic architecture of cardiometabolic multimorbidity in African-ancestry populations, with particular emphasis on developing and evaluating polygenic scores for improved risk prediction. His work integrates genomic and clinical data to better understand the shared biological pathways underlying co-occurring chronic diseases such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and chronic kidney disease. Nhlamulo's broader research interests lie at the intersection of genomics, data science, and population health. He is particularly interested in applying computational and statistical methods to address health challenges in underrepresented populations and to support more equitable precision medicine in Africa. Through his involvement with MADIVA and the broader DS-I Africa community, he has developed experience in genomic data analysis, collaborative research, and interdisciplinary scientific engagement. He is committed to research that is both methodologically rigorous and relevant to real-world public health priorities. Nhlamulo is passionate about advancing African-led genomic research and contributing to data-driven solutions for complex health challenges across the continent.
