Advancing discovery for developmental disorders - expanded analysis of the DDD-Africa resource (Masters Student)

I am a Computer Engineer and Bioinformatician with a strong interest in applying data science and artificial intelligence to complex health challenges. I am currently pursuing an MSc in Computational Health Informatics at the University of Cape Town, where my research focuses on genomic variant analysis, particularly in the context of rare diseases in African populations. My work sits at the intersection of computational biology, machine learning, and health data science. I have hands-on experience developing bioinformatics pipelines, working with large-scale genomic data, and building data-driven solutions using Python, R, and SQL. I am also familiar with cloud platforms and modern tools such as Docker, which support scalable and reproducible research. Alongside my academic training, I have completed several professional certifications across areas including data engineering, MLOps, quantum computing, large language models, cloud computing (AWS), and project management. I am particularly interested in developing approaches that improve the representation and interpretation of African genomic data, and in contributing to capacity building in data science across the continent.
