Utilizing data science to evaluate the applicability of blood cell traits polygenic risk scores for disease prediction in Africa

I acquired my BSc as a Dentist at the British University in Egypt in 2018, then I followed with my MSc from King's College London in 2021, where I studied stem cells and their applications in dental regeneration. Indulging more in the life sciences, I moved to investigate oral tissue regeneration and ageing as a Visiting Researcher, then I acquired a Senior Reserach Technician position within King's College London investigating the proteomics of CVDs. Scientific research sparked my interest, and I eagerly craved pursuing a PhD to acquire proper training on utilizing large datasets, bioinformatics, and machine learning to study the human body on a wider scale. I have been offered the LIDo PhD Studentship from UCL in 2023, and currently I am doing my PhD in LSHTM and UCL, studying genetic architecture of blood cell traits in African populations and their associations with non-communicable diseases.
