    Mugume Twinamatsiko Atwine is a Health Data Scientist and Machine Learning Engineer based at Africa Center Of Excellence (ACE) in Uganda. Working at the intersection of natural language processing, health informatics, and artificial intelligence, his research focuses on building practical AI solutions for low-resource settings, with particular expertise in bilingual NLP for English-Luganda health communication. He is actively involved with the DS-I Africa consortium and serves within the OHDSI Uganda chapter, contributing to health data standardization efforts across the continent. His current work spans multiple fronts, including machine translation for medical texts using transformer-based models, clinical decision support systems leveraging RAG-based LLM approaches, and co-design methodologies for health chatbots targeting underserved populations. His grant portfolio includes collaborations with funders such as the NIH, Gates Foundation, Lacuna Fund, Google AI, and Wellcome Trust.
