Tuberculosis in households with infectious cases in Kampala city: Harnessing health data science for new insights on TB transmission and treatment response (Training Manager / Coordinator)

I am a physician-researcher with expertise in infectious disease diagnostics and program implementation. I am a medical doctor and research associate in the Department of Immunology and Molecular Biology at the School of Biomedical Sciences, Makerere University. In 2016, I worked as a resident medical officer at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital in Eastern Uganda. During this period, I managed patients with HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, including those with drug-resistant tuberculosis. I performed lifesaving surgical interventions for emergencies such as appendicitis, intestinal obstruction, and traumatic injuries. I also managed obstetric emergencies, including emergency cesarean section and assisted vaginal deliveries. I worked in a neonatal unit, providing day-to-day care for neonates. In 2018, I joined the Department of Immunology and Molecular Biology as a research associate. I have successfully managed several tuberculosis trials in collaboration with Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. These include 1) the FEND-TB consortium (PI- Ellner Jerrold Grant no-7U)1AI152084, 2) the Novel and Optimized Diagnostics for Pediatric TB Study (PI Ellner Jerrold Grant no-7R01AI152159), and 3) Bacterial and Host Heterogeneity in TB latency, persistence, and progression (PI Ellner Jerrold Grant no-7U19AI162598). These programs are recruiting a longitudinal cohort of TB-positive index cases and their household contacts, including children under 5 years. The proposed activities in this program logically build
