    Dr. Cheickna Cisse is an Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Bioinformatics at the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako (USTTB) in Mali. He currently serves as the Deputy Director of the African Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Data-Intensive Sciences of Bamako (ACE-B) since 2019. Dr. Cisse obtained his PhD degree from the University Grenoble Alpes, France, in 2012. His doctoral research focused on the structural study of anti-FUR peptide aptamers and their interactions with their target. Following his PhD, he held a one-year postdoctoral position at the Institute de Chimie des Substances Naturales (ICSN-CNRS), in Paris, where he worked on beta-lactamase inhibitors using an automated screening system involving covalent docking and metalloproteins. Dr. Cisse gained strong experience in higher education prior to holding a faculty position at USTTB in 2016. Dr. Cisse is actively involved in capacity building and promoting bioinformatics and data science in Africa through his leadership position. His research interests focus on utilizing modeling tools to identify therapeutic candidates for tropical diseases that pose major problems to public health.
