Advancing Public Health Research in Eastern Africa through Data Science Training (Co-PI)
I am from the School of Information science, Addis Ababa University. I am an IT professional and academician at the rank of associate professor, with a proven track record in teaching and research, particularly in the areas of software design, database management, knowledge management, statistical methods, and design science research process. I have the necessary background training and expertise to apply machine learning techniques and statistical inference to manipulate and mine data relationships from data sets in order to extract useful insights and make predictive models. In particular I have become more and more interested in epistermic justice and algorithmicfairnessindata science. As part of my PhD studies, I employed Bayesian networks to make inferences on students' learning behaviors so as to make informed decisions on creating student groups. My expertise as an educator for 30+ years at Addis Ababa University and as a researcher and international collaborator within the context of Ethiopia's public health system has given me the experience to co-lead the APHREA-DST project effectively. I believe I will gain more expertise and further academic and practical experience from the fourth consortium that takes place in November 2024.
