Public Understanding of Big data in Genomics Medicine in Africa (Post Doc)

Dr. Kengne Kamga Karen is a highly skilled and experienced Cameroonian physician with a strong passion for genetics. He has been actively involved in this field for over ten years. His interest in genetics started during his time as a medical student when he worked on his final dissertation focused on the causes of developmental delay in children between 3 and 72 months. After completing his medical degree, Dr Karen worked as a GP in a semi-urban setting for five years, gaining valuable clinical experience and honing his skills in providing holistic care to patients. This experience fuelled his desire to learn more about genetics and its impact on human health, leading him to pursue a PhD in Genetic Counselling at the prestigious University of Cape Town (UCT). His research delved into the interplay between individual genetic findings and traditional knowledge within Cameroonian villages. He then transitioned into a clinical geneticist role at Limbe Regional Hospital, where he has been making a significant contribution to the health and well-being of patients. As a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cape Town, he continues to explore his interest in genetics and genomics of developmental disorders, community engagement, and bioethics.
