Artificial Intelligence assisted echocardiography to facilitate optimal image extraction for congenital heart defects diagnosis in Sub-Saharan Africa (Co-PI)

Dr SOP DEFFO Lionel is an assistant Lecturer in the Department of Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Buea in Cameroon. His research focuses on image processing, with the aims of recognizing shape to detect and identify objects specifically person(s) in a video scene or in a sequence of images. This usually passes through the mechanism of segmentation with consists of partitioning a digital image into multiple image segments, also known as image regions or image objects (sets of pixels). The goal is to simplify and/or change the representation of an image into something that is more meaningful and easier to analyze. More precisely, image segmentation is the process of assigning a label to every pixel in an image such that pixels with the same label share certain characteristics. He also research on Learning techniques, more specifically deep learning approaches which use neural networks to sharpen the results obtained by early methods. The idea is to mimic the human brain in high level computations such as image classification people counting, face detection, face recognition, signature authentication, etc. Dr SOP has a good background in Mathematics Computer Science, having specific training and expertise in Computer Science (computer vision
