Fourth Meeting of the DS-I Africa Consortium
16 - 22 November 2024
The Ravenala Attitude Hotel, Mauritius

  • Mr Edward Lukyamuzi - Participant

Open Data Science Platform (Bioinformatics Associate)

Edward serves as a Bioinformatics Associate at the eLwazi DS-I Africa node at the Uganda Virus Research Institute, where he provided support for bioinformatics analysis, tool and workflow development. He played a leading role in the development of an automated NGS pipeline for reproducible analyses of mosquito genomes with the intent to provide scientists in low-resource settings with the tools and ability to evaluate vector genomics data as equal partners. He holds a Bioinformatics Trainer fellowship within the PAMCA-MalariaGEN vector genomics surveillance program where he actively contributes to a collaborative effort that investigates the genomics of major Malaria vectors in Africa. While Edward's educational background lies in Computing and Mathematics, his enduring passion has always been in biological science research. His research interests focus on data-intensive computing at the intersection of cloud and multicore technologies with an emphasis on contributing to the development of tools, methods and computational systems to foster the mining of meaningful insights, patterns, and trends from biomedical data to guide operational health research and public health policy.
