    Dr Simon Arunga is an academic consultant ophthalmologist, founding chairman of Dr Arunga's Eye Hospital, Senior lecturer at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) in southern Uganda and Honorary assistant professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK. He is married with 4 children. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers and is the recipient of several research grants. Currently, he is Co Investigator at the MUST Data Science Research Hub (MUDSReH) and the team lead of the Multimodal Database for Retinal Images in an African population (MoDRIA). This work aims to built the first well curated database of multimodal retinal images with a predominantly African population that will be utilized to develop AI algorithms for several retinal and systemic diseases.
