    Inka Sastalla, Ph.D., is a Program Officer in the Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, in the Office of Genomics and Advanced Technologies at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), NIH in Bethesda, Maryland. She oversees a research portfolio that includes NIAID's Genomic Centers for Infectious Diseases and other research, small business, and training grants in the areas of pathogen genomics and related technologies. Inka's research background is in bacterial genetics and pathogenesis. She received a PhD in microbiology from the Technical University in Braunschweig, Germany and worked at the Helmholtz Centre of Infection Research in Germany before joining NIAID in 2006, first as a bench researcher and later as Scientific Review and Program Officer.
