Harnessing Data Science to Promote Equity in Injury and Surgery for Africa ()

My prior work on injury in sub-Saharan Africa and my clinical background as a trauma surgeon has prepared me to conduct the proposed project "Smartphone ultrasonography to improve diagnosis and treatment of life-threatening injuries for trauma patients in Cameroon". Through longitudinal experience conducting research in low- and middle- income countries I have developed the critical partnerships and skillset necessary to design and implement trauma systems research in Cameroon. Since 2015, I have worked with Drs. Rochelle Dicker, Catherine Juillard and Mitchell Cohen in developing and implementing durable trauma surveillance and quality improvement systems in sub-Saharan Africa. Specifically, my research focuses on the development and validation of novel applications of technology to facilitate building scalable, context-appropriate, and evidenced-based care- delivery systems and research infrastructure in Cameroon. I have partnered with my co-PI Dr. Chichom, the University of Buea, and the Ministry of Public Health in Cameroon on multiple injury surveillance and infrastructure development projects aimed toward improvement of trauma care.
