UZIMA-DS: UtiliZing health Information for Meaningful impact in East Africa through Data Science (PhD trainee)

Recognizing the importance of inclusivity and diversity in health data science, my broad goal is to work toward a more equitable future, and I feel strongly about promoting biomedical research that does not overlook understudied and marginalized communities. My aim is to contribute to the mitigation of disparities and advocate for personalized/precision healthcare interventions tailored to the specific needs of diverse populations. My commitment is to address critical research questions that have far-reaching implications for health equity. I aspire to explore the role of genes and environment in the development of neuropsychiatric disorders and diseases and to elevate the current state-of-the-art by exploring the role of social determinants in contributing to mental health disparities particularly among understudied or marginalized populations.
