Ms Joy Zialesi Atokple - Speaker
Data Science for Child Health Now in Ghana (DS-CHANGE) (PhD trainee)
Joy Zialesi Atokple earned her bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2018. Her undergraduate thesis focused on Computer Vision, specifically "Person Identification and Tracking in real-time video surveillance." She had the privilege of serving as a teaching assistant during her compulsory national service at the Department of Mathematics at the same institution she had her first degree. She conducted tutorials on subjects such as Discrete Structures, Numerical Analysis, and Differential Equations. Continuing her pursuit of knowledge, She completed an MPhil in Scientific Computing and Industrial Modelling at the National Institute for Mathematical Sciences also situated in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2022. She worked on "A Baseline Visual Corpus for Speech Assessment of Ghanaian Patients with Cleft Lip and/or Palate." This program expanded her expertise in applying mathematical concepts to real-world scenarios, further fueling her passion for interdisciplinary studies. Currently, she is engaged in an exciting and challenging journey as a PhD candidate in Biomedical Data Science. This field perfectly aligns with her desire to merge her mathematical background with the complexities of healthcare. She is driven by the potential to contribute to groundbreaking research that leverages data-driven approaches to improve diagnostics and treatment outcomes. Aside from academics, Joy enjoys reading and writing. She is eager to collaborate with fellow researchers, share insights, and contribute to the ever-evolving landscape of Biomedical Data Science.
