    Advancing Public Health Research in Eastern Africa through Data Science Training (APHREA-DST) (Faculty mentee)

    Elisha Abade is an associate professor at the Department of Computing and Informatics, University of Nairobi, Kenya, where he teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the areas of programming, computer security and machine learning. He’s also been a researcher and consultant in various ICT projects both in Kenya and Japan. In Kenya, he is a co-investigator in a multi-stakeholder project funded by the US National Institute for Health (NIH) named Advancing Public Health Research through Data Science Training (APHREADST); https://www.aphrea-dst.org/. He was also part of the team implementing the HealthIT project; a USAID-funded project in the University of Nairobi for sustaining use of health systems in Kenya (https://healthit.uonbi.ac.ke/). In addition to academic research work, he has been a consultant to several government agencies and private firms in Kenya in the areas of computer security, data analytics and visualization. Elisha is a member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), a Certified Data Protection Solutions Engineer (CDPSE) with deep computer software development, data analytics, visualization and cybersecurity tools and techniques. He has a diverse and robust skill set including experience in international research partnerships, implementation of health data analytics solutions for public health institutions, ICT consultation experience in the governmental and private sector, and the founder-directorship of a data science education institution. This broad experience makes him a strong partner in this Cybersecurity training initiative.
