    Research Training in Data Science for Health in Rwanda (Mentor)

    Dr. de las Fuentes is a cardiologist and Professor of Medicine and Biostatistics at Washington University in St. Louis with a 15-year history of collaborative research studying factors that contribute to hypertension and cardiovascular disease traits, including environmental, metabolic, nutritional, and genomic factors. She is interested in identifying barriers to optimal cardiovascular health on a global scale. She is co-investigator of the Research Coordinating Center (RCC) for the Heart, Lung, and Blood Co-morbiditieS Implementation Models in People Living with HIV (HLB-SIMPLe) Alliance which is investigating implementation strategies for improving hypertension care among people living with HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa. She is also co-investigator of the Addressing HyperteNsion and Diabetes through Community-Engaged Systems in Puno, Peru (ANDES study) which is investigating implementation strategies for improving hypertension care among people from predominantly indigenous populations in underserved areas of Peru and contact PI for a capacity building D43 grant in Peru.
