  • Dr Jean Le Roux - Participant

    Wits RHI (Data Manager)

I am Jean le Roux, a South African epidemiologist currently working as a data manager at Wits RHI. My current fields of active interest are the effects of climate on health, and maternal and neonatal health. I started in clinical medicine, completing my MBBCh in 2016, but pivoted to epidemiology when I realised I was better suited (and could make a more meaningful impact) as a researcher than as a doctor. I have since earned a Masters in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and worked in multiple observational and interventional studies. I have nearly seven years' worth of experience in data management, starting as an intern in 2018 and rising up the ranks before being appointed as data manager in 2021. I have participated in clinical trials, retrospective and cross-sectional studies, and implementation science projects. I have contributed to protocol development, database design and management, quality control and assurance, statistical analysis, and manuscript writing. I am proficient in Stata and Microsoft Excel, and I am extensively familiar with database design and project management using REDCap. I am hoping to take the next step in my career development and professional network in the field of data science, for health and climate research.
