Ms Tumai Muzorewa - Panellist
Tumai Muzorewa is a human geneticist and an emerging African voice in AI-driven health innovation. Currently a PhD candidate at the University of the Witwatersrand, she works at the intersection of genomics, data science, and health-systems strategy with a direct focus on how Africa can harness predictive technologies to strengthen public health delivery.
Her research centres on building context-relevant predictive models for cardiometabolic diseases in African populations. By integrating genetic and non-genetic data, her work explores how AI-enabled risk prediction can fundamentally shift strained health systems from costly, late-stage treatment toward earlier detection, prevention, and smarter resource allocation, a vital contribution to the "Vision and Realities" discussion.
Beyond academia, Tumai is passionate about translating scientific advances into policy-relevant insights. She has contributed to national and regional conversations on equitable precision health, and the need for African-built data ecosystems. Her work reflects a strong commitment to ensuring that emerging technologies expand access, particularly for underserved communities, and deliver scalable, cost-efficient solutions.
She actively collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across Africa and mentors young scientists. Tumai advocates for Africa-led approaches to AI that promote dignity, equity, and sustainable development. She is driven by the simple belief that predictive technologies can help Africa move from treatment to prevention, saving lives and building more resilient societies.
